Prostate cancer ‘may be a sexually transmitted disease’

trichomonas vaginalis

Prostate cancer may be a sexually transmitted disease caused by a common yet often silent infection passed on during intercourse, scientists say – but experts say proof is still lacking.

Although several cancers are caused by infections, Cancer Research UK says it is too early to add prostate cancer to this list.

The University of California scientists tested human prostate cells in the lab.

They found a sex infection called trichomoniasis aided cancer growth.

There are still no known lifestyle factors that seem to affect the risk of developing the disease – and no convincing evidence for a link with infection”

Nicola Smith Cancer Research UK

More research is now needed to confirm the link, they say in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

Sex infection

Trichomoniasis is believed to infect some 275 million people worldwide and is the most common non-viral sexually transmitted infection.

Often, a person will have no symptoms and be unaware that they have it.

Men may feel itching or irritation inside the penis, burning after urination or ejaculation, or a white discharge from the penis.

Women may notice itching or soreness of the genitals, discomfort with urination, or a discharge with an unpleasant fishy smell.

This latest research is not the first to suggest a link between trichomoniasis and prostate cancer. A study in 2009 found a quarter of men with prostate cancer showed signs of trichomoniasis, and these men were more likely to have advanced tumours.

The PNAS study suggests how the sexually transmitted infection might make men more vulnerable to prostate cancer, although it is not definitive proof of such a link.

Prof Patricia Johnson and colleagues found the parasite that causes trichomoniasis – Trichomonas vaginalis – secretes a protein that causes inflammation and increased growth and invasion of benign and cancerous prostate cells.

They say more studies should now follow to further explore this finding – particularly since we still do not know what causes prostate cancer.

Nicola Smith, health information officer at Cancer Research UK, said: “This study suggests a possible way the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis could encourage prostate cancer cells to grow and develop more quickly.

“But the research was only done in the lab, and previous evidence in patients failed to show a clear link between prostate cancer and this common sexually transmitted infection.

“There’s been a lot of research into prostate cancer risk and we’re working hard to piece together the puzzle.

“But there are still no known lifestyle factors that seem to affect the risk of developing the disease – and no convincing evidence for a link with infection.

“The risk of prostate cancer is known to increase with age.”

Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer in men in the UK – about one in nine men will get it at some point in their lives.

It is more common in men over 70, and there appears to be some genetic risk since the disease can run in families.

Shock study: Chemotherapy can backfire, make cancer worse by triggering tumor growth

Scientists found that healthy cells damaged by chemotherapy secreted more of a protein called WNT16B, which boosts cancer cell survival. ‘The increase in WNT16B was completely unexpected,” said Peter Nelson, of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Healthy cells damaged by chemotherapy secrete more of a protein called WNT16B, which boosts cancer cell survival

Long considered the most effective cancer-fighting treatment, chemotherapy may actually make cancer worse, according to a shocking new study.

The extremely aggressive therapy, which kills both cancerous and healthy cells indiscriminately, can cause healthy cells to secrete a protein that sustains tumor growth and resistance to further treatment.

Researchers in the United States made the “completely unexpected” finding while seeking to explain why cancer cells are so resilient inside the human body when they are easy to kill in the lab.

They tested the effects of a type of chemotherapy on tissue collected from men with prostate cancer, and found “evidence of DNA damage” in healthy cells after treatment, the scientists wrote in Nature Medicine.

Chemotherapy works by inhibiting reproduction of fast-dividing cells such as those found in tumors.

The scientists found that healthy cells damaged by chemotherapy secreted more of a protein called WNT16B which boosts cancer cell survival.

“The increase in WNT16B was completely unexpected,” study co-author Peter Nelson of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle told AFP.

The protein was taken up by tumor cells neighboring the damaged cells.

“WNT16B, when secreted, would interact with nearby tumor cells and cause them to grow, invade, and importantly, resist subsequent therapy,” said Nelson.

In cancer treatment, tumors often respond well initially, followed by rapid re-growth and then resistance to further chemotherapy.

Rates of tumor cell reproduction have been shown to accelerate between treatments.

“Our results indicate that damage responses in benign cells… may directly contribute to enhanced tumor growth kinetics,” wrote the team.

The researchers said they confirmed their findings with breast and ovarian cancer tumors.

The result paves the way for research into new, improved treatment, said Nelson.

“For example, an antibody to WNT16B, given with chemotherapy, may improve responses (kill more tumor cells),” he said in an email exchange.

“Alternatively, it may be possible to use smaller, less toxic doses of therapy.”

“There is New England Journal of Medicine-level data that suggests that almost half of [health] care is not compliant with evidence.” [In other words, almost 50% of all health care in America isn’t even based on published mainstream studies…and, I should add, there is conclusive evidence that half of these studies are untrustworthy in the first place. Therefore, to say that conventional doctors are winging it is a vast understatement. JR]

Scientificity of Homoeopathic MEDICINE

After recent experience with colleges purporting to teach homoeopathy, and in observing a few patient prescriptions by followers of the various cults within the therapy, a couple of comments are below. These are not aimed at the individuals, for I am sure they are very nice people, but at the prevailing mindset. Anyway, here are the comments.

The people who are not following the masters, old or new, are those at the Prasanta Banerji Homeopathic Research Foundation, whose work on curing cancer is well documented now in a very large series of cases. Search for Banerji protocol to see more. We don’t need to argue about whose way is best if we can show some results!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Karin Mont, Chair, Alliance of Registered Homeopaths, UK —  response to – XXII Indian National Homoeopathic Science Congress in New Delhi – Decision to call the combination remedy prescribing ‘un-homoeopathic’

Although it may seem somewhat alarming to consider ‘standardised homeopathy’, various states in India have been talking about banning combination remedies for years now, but the production of them flourishes in Europe, a situation which is unlikely to change. Although India is without question one of the leaders in homeopathic development today, it follows a very traditionalist approach to prescribing (and education!), which may well still meet the needs of its citizens. However, in other parts of the world, especially where allopathic drug suppression has been prevalent for decades, ‘pure’ Hahnemannian  homeopathy is proving less and less effective, hence the increasing use of combination remedies, nosodes, sarcodes, high potencies etc. I’m sure that were he alive today, Hahnemann would be evolving his prescribing methodologies to reflect the changes to the vital force which our current lifestyles have imposed upon us. So, rather than being concerned by India’s apparent attempt to hold back development in our understanding of homeopathy, let’s see how successful this proposed policy will be in the long run. Time will tell, and since homeopathy is both multi faceted and generous, I personally believe there’s room for more than one approach!”

It would seem that the two comments above are representative of the viewpoint of Homoeopathic medical doctors and appointed spokespersons for modern homoeopathic therapists..
It is disappointing to see this viewpoint take hold in the West mainly because it demonstrates an alarming resurgence of a non medical and non scientific approach to the application of medicines using the establish protocol of Homoeopathic prescribing.
There is no question in my mind that the modern viewpoint comes from a total lack of knowledge regarding the therapy of homoeopathy or the practice thereof by Hahnemannian methods. On what basis can a person state “homoeopathy is proving less and less effective” unless they know how to practice according to Hahnemanns directives? Why is it that for those utilising Hahnemannian methodology, that the patients respond well to treatment and do not need nosodes, sarcodes and high potencies as standard? On what basis can a comment be made for the efficacy of a high potency over a low one as a preference? How can a person be sure that Hahnemann would be “evolving his prescribing methodologies” for modern lifestyles?
This statement really frightens me.  “We don’t need to argue about whose way is best if we can show some results!”
Results compared to what? Allopathy? Drug suppression? Naturopathy? On what basis can any therapy be given without a protocol and scientific proof and long term results documented? Oncologists,  in treating certain cancers show amazing results with proven results. The long term effects of drug treatments, dependencies and affinity to getting another disease state or immune weakness are some of the areas of concern with certain treatments. Most certainly, this statement cannot be aimed toward REAL homoeopathy with a protocol and a systematic approach to treatment simply because modern homoeopathic therapists do not know Hahnemannian homoeopathy. At what stage can a therapy ignore a natural law and eventually cause its own problems?
One thing that needs to be said is that the use use of a potentized medicine in a treatment, does NOT make it a homoeopathic treatment, and does not make the person giving it a homoeopath.
No medical intervention or treatment should be given without a long period of trialing and testing. Hahnemann took EIGHT years before he began treating with Homoeopathy. There were many books and papers and experiments written and researched on medicines, reactions, similarities, and results before he cautiously stepped into treating with his therapy.
Hahnemann made the majority of his cures with 30c and under. He made the majority of his treatments with less than 150 medicines. He treated the same diseases as we have today, some of them worse. He treated suppressed disease states and mixed diseases. Homoeopathy, the therapy, is based on a natural law. The law never fails, but the ability to respond to it sometimes does if the human economy is weak or unable to respond. That is when other protocols that artificially stimulate or suppress or maintain are required. With these will come dependence on medication or ultimately death through an inharmonious balance to sustain life.
We are not opposed to people using the therapy of their choice. We are not opposed to personal opinion. We just do not want Homoeopathy decried, devalued and dismissed by people who use the label homoeopath who will not utilise the proper protocols, and worse still have no clue what homoeopathy is. The current state of ignorance regarding the origins, the principles and most shockingly, the lack of researched knowledge about the power and scope of the original provings and how to apply them to the patient,  does not bode well for the continuance of the therapy, or the wellbeing of the patients seeking help.
In general Homoeopathy never fails. Only the homoeopath. As long as we remember that, it should spur us on to examining the protocols and research to see where we can do better.

Worse than a Disease Diagnosis – This Mistake Can Land You in the E.R.

In 1776, Dr. Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, foretold a grim scenario that has now taken shape right before our eyes. He said:by Dr. Mercola

“Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution the time will come when medicine will organize itself into an undercover dictatorship. To restrict the art of healing to doctors and deny equal privileges to others will constitute the Bastille of medical science. All such laws are un-American and despotic.”

Now, in 2012, we are very much facing this reality, as we live in an era where our medical freedom is increasingly under attack, and “healing” has been replaced with “treating” disease, most often with toxic chemicals and surgery. This drug-driven medical paradigm not only depends on the sacrifice and, some might say, torture, of animals in medical research, but also in many ways uses humans as sacrificial lambs.

Modern Medical Care is a Leading Cause of Death

There were nearly 4.6 million drug-related visits to emergency roomsi in the United States in 2009, with more than half due to adverse reactions to prescription medications – most of which were being taken exactly as prescribedii. The fact of the matter is, as echoed by a study released by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA)iii, it is a mistake to assume there’s no risk in prescribed medicines! As Sayer Ji writes on GreenMedInfo.comiv:

“The “medicines” themselves are often devoid of intrinsic value, being nothing more than rebranded and re-purposed chemicals, intended (though all too often failing) to be administered in sub-lethal concentrations. Indeed, many of these chemicals are too toxic to be legally released into the environment, and should never be administered intentionally to a human who is already sick. You need look no farther than a typical drug package insert to find proof that the side effects of most drugs far outnumber their purported beneficial effects.

These chemicals, in fact, are so highly leveraged against their true value (or lack thereof), that they can sell for as much as 500,000% percent from cost! Only medical/pharmaceutical and financial institutions (e.g. Federal Reserve) are legally empowered to generate the illusion that they are creating something of value out of nothing of value, on this scale.”

Medical care is actually one of the leading causes of death in the U.S., with medical errors, adverse drug reactions, and hospital-acquired infectionsv killing an unacceptable number of Americans each and every day! Drug-related ER visits jumped by more than half between 2004 and 2008vi, stirring health officials to look for ways to stop what has become a near-epidemic that often ends in deathvii.

And when you consider that 2.7 million of those visitsviii involved prescriptions for largely preventable health issues, you can’t help but wonder why we have strayed so far from true health care in lieu of health treatments.

You may be tempted to point your finger at your physician. After all, he or she is on the “front lines” doing most of the prescribing and advising. But whether or not doctors succeed in upholding the Hippocratic Oath — the promise to Do No Harm — is not always entirely in their own hands.

The conventional medical system is simply not designed to give them that freedom. It’s VITAL that you understand that regardless of their personal opinions, many times they’re simply not allowed to offer you any other alternatives than what the “standard protocol” demands. As written on GreenMedInfo.comix:

“Within our present dominant medical system, healing has not simply been forgotten but intentionally exorcized as it represents the antithesis of perpetual profitability which requires the incurability of the human body. Were the truth be told, and the body’s self-regenerative capabilities acknowledged, the entire superstructure of drug-based medicine and hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue it generates annually, would crumble overnight.”

Are You Intentionally Being Misled about Your Body’s Innate Healing Abilities?

This issue runs much deeper than your physician’s office. The entire medical system as it currently stands has been quite carefully orchestrated to make you believe that drugs, vaccinations, screening tests, and surgery are what is required to be well, while an assault has been launched against natural strategies and supplements that have proven vital to well-being for centuries.

For instance, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has launched a full-fledged war against the sale of raw milk, a substance that provides many natural beneficial and healing properties, even though between 1999 and 2010 there was an average of only 42 cases of illness per year attributed to raw milk, and that includes both “confirmed” and “presumed” cases. Meanwhile, they have allowed livestock producers to continue to add low doses of antibiotics to animal feed for growth promotion, even though this practice is undeniably linked to the spread of deadly antibiotic-resistant disease!

They have also issued new Draft Guidance on New Dietary Ingredients that threatens to remove some of your most commonly usedsupplements from the market, all while approving drugs, prescribed by doctors every day, that kill over 125,000 Americans a year.

They are but one government agency that is so thoroughly enmeshed in the drug-medical paradigm that they are utterly unable to protect you. The American Medical Association (AMA) has maintained a decades-long battle against “alternative” healing traditions, dating back to the 1920s and arguably even earlier. The courts eventually ruled in favor of the chiropractors in 1987, finding the AMA guilty of a conspiracy to take down the chiropractic profession, but their battle has continued on anyway.

According to Naturopathy Digest, the AMA and other medical groups justify their opposition to natural medicine, a primary principle of which is supporting your body’s own innate healing potential, on the basis of three areas of concernx:

  • Quality of patient care
  • Patient safety
  • Quality of education of medical practitioners

As the article so eloquently points out, none of these arguments hold up, and most are based on medical and pharmaceutical industry propaganda. If they were TRULY concerned about patient care and safety, they would not be targeting natural medicine, which has an incredibly low incidence of adverse consequences and proven successes, but instead going after their own allopathic medical practices that are leaving a trail of death and destruction.

Other medical associations whose claims that they exist for the betterment of public health are entirely questionable include the following:

  • American Dental Association (ADA): Continues to support the use of mercury fillings and demonizes biological dentists who oppose the use of mercury in dentistry; continues to support fluoridation, in spite of the evidence it does more harm than good.
  • American Cancer Society (ACS): This charity has close ties to the mammography industry, the cancer drug industry, and the pesticide industry; has rampant conflicts of interest; consistently promotes drugs and screening procedures while ignoring environmental causes of cancer.
  • National Cancer Institute (NCI): Has spent billions of taxpayer dollars promoting treatments while ignoring strategies for preventing cancer; abundant ties to the cancer drug industry (for more information, read Samuel Epstein’s new book, National Cancer Institute and American Cancer Society: Criminal Indifference to Cancer Prevention and Conflicts of Interest)xi
  • American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP): Claiming to be protecting your children, the AAP is largely funded by vaccine manufacturers but refuses to disclose just how much money it gets from them; partners with Congress to protect pediatricians and drug companies from liability for vaccine injuries, while preventing you from getting truthful vaccine information.

However, even the government is not at the top of the totem pole when it comes to this attack on your ability to access natural therapies and obtain optimal health. GreenMedInfo.com continuesxii:

“Although the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) behave as if they are at the top of this pyramid of power relations, they serve far lower on the hierarchy. While the government of the United States and American corporate lobbying groups may appear to be behind the FDA’s shameless pandering to the interests of the drug companies, transnational corporations and organizations — and a hand full of elite governing them — are in fact pulling the strings.”

Natural Therapies are Increasingly Under Attack, or Intentionally Suppressed

Did you know a cream containing eggplant extract, known as BEC and BEC5, appears to eliminate most non-melanoma skin cancersin several weeks time? Or that studies conducted so far show significant potential for the use of cannabis in the prevention and treatment of a wide range of health conditions, including cancer?

Have you heard about Dr. Nick Gonzalez, who has had remarkable success treating patients with some of the most lethal forms of cancer that conventional medicine cannot effectively address using a three-pronged nutritional approach?

There’s a good chance you answered “no” to these questions, and that’s not a coincidence. Information like this is not easy to come by in the mainstream press or from most conventional health care authorities, which is one of the primary reasons why I started this site.Alternatives to drugs and surgery are out there, but unless there is a profit to be had, you aren’t likely to hear about them. In fact, the system is set up to make sure that you don’t.

One of the prime examples of this is vitamin D.

Over 800 studies already show that vitamin D could have cancer-prevention and/or treatment possibilities. But the problem is that it’s a natural substance that can’t be patented as a simple supplement, meaning there’s no real revenue in it, compared to a prescription brand drug. That’s why many drug studies involving vitamins of any kind hinge on how the FDA defines drugs and supplements.

A drug is defined as a product meant for the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of a diseasexiii. A supplement is defined as a product that is meant to simply “supplement” or “enhance” a normal diet within the daily allowances recommended by the FDAxiv. Retailers who sell supplements are not allowed to tell you that vitamin D can possibly “prevent, mitigate or cure” cancer without having the FDA accuse them of selling a drug that hasn’t been approved through the proper FDA process.

That process of getting a drug to market costs an average $359 millionxv and takes nearly 10 years – with a good portion of the money going directly to the FDA through user feesxvi. Over the years these fees have become a major funding source for the FDA. What drug companies get in return is faster FDA reviews and drug approvals.

As a result, a kind of you-scratch-my-back-I’ll-scratch-yours scenario has ensued, with drug companies maintaining major leverage over the FDA when it comes to protecting their revenue sources, including making sure the $60 billion-a-year supplement business doesn’t get in the way of drug salesxvii. The history of FDA laws and regulations on file at Harvard Law School, explains how years ago an FDA task force long ago established this policy…

“… to ensure that the presence of dietary supplements on the market does not act as a disincentive to drug development.”

What Can You do to Support Real Health and Healing?

For starters, recognize that health does not come from a pill … and no disease is caused by a “drug or vaccine deficiency.” As written on GreenMedInfo.comxviii:

” … is there any greater absurdity than a medical model that treats the symptoms of disease with sub-lethal dosages of toxic chemicals and in which there is no attempt to uncover, understand or remove the causes of those imbalances?

After all, what disease has ever been found to be caused by a lack of a drug?

Is acid reflux caused by a lack of proton-pump inhibitors?

Is heart disease caused by a lack of statin drugs?

Is osteoporosis caused by a lack of Fosamax?

Is cancer caused by a lack of chemotherapy?

Is depression caused by a lack of Paxil?

Absolutely not! Then why would anyone consider it sound practice to use potentially toxic chemicals as a first-line treatment for conditions that are not caused by a lack of a chemical? To the contrary many diseases are caused exactly by culminative exposures to chemicals that not unlike drugs are biologically alien to the body, i.e we are treating poisoning with poisons! Can we dignify this approach by calling it medicine? Or, is it more accurately described as a form of sorcery?”

Until real systemic change takes place, your best health strategy is quite simply to employ and maintain a naturally healthy lifestyle that will optimize your body’s innate healing abilities and minimize your need for the drug companies’ latest concoctions. We are, however, working hard to change the system and help protect your health freedoms from corrupt influences like the drug industry; you can learn more about our newest initiative toward this end, Health Liberty, now.

It is, of course, of paramount importance to take control of your health so you can stay well naturally, without the use of drugs or even frequent conventional medical care. If you adhere to a healthy lifestyle, you most likely will not need medications in the first place. This encompasses several principles, including:

  • Proper Food Choices

For a comprehensive guide on which foods to eat and which to avoid, see my nutrition plan. Generally speaking, you should be looking to focus your diet on whole, unprocessed foods (vegetables, meats, raw dairy, nuts, and so forth) that come from healthy, sustainable, local sources, such as a small organic farm not far from your home.

For the best nutrition and health benefits, you will want to have raw food as a good portion of your diet. Personally, I aim to eat about 80-85 percent of my food raw, including raw eggs and humanely raised organic animal products that have not been raised on a CAFO (confined animal feeding operation).

Nearly as important as knowing which foods to eat more of is knowing which foods to avoid, and topping the list is fructose.Sugar, and fructose in particular, contributes to multiple disease processes in your body, not the least of which is insulin resistance, a major cause of accelerated aging.

  • Comprehensive Exercise Program, including High-Intensity Exercise like Peak Fitness

Even if you’re eating the healthiest diet in the world, you still need to exercise to reach the highest levels of health, and you need to be exercising effectively, which means including not only core-strengthening exercises, strength training, and stretching but also high-intensity activities into your rotation. High-intensity, interval-type training boosts human growth hormone (HGH) production, which is essential for optimal health, strength and vigor. I’ve discussed the importance of Peak Fitness for your health on numerous occasions, so for more information please review this previous article.

  • Stress Reduction and Positive Thinking

You cannot be optimally healthy if you avoid addressing the emotional component of your health and longevity, as your emotional state plays a role in nearly every physical disease — from heart disease and depression, to arthritis and cancer. Effective coping mechanisms are a major longevity-promoting factor in part because stress has a direct impact on inflammation, which in turn underlies many of the chronic diseases that kill people prematurely every day. Meditation, prayer, social support and exercise are all viable options that can help you maintain emotional and mental equilibrium.

  • Proper Sun Exposure to Optimize Vitamin D

We have long known that it is best to get your vitamin D from sun exposure, and if at all possible, I strongly urge you to make sure you’re getting out in the sun on a daily basis or if this is not an option use a safe tanning bed.

Just keep in mind that it’s really best to get ALL your vitamin D from the sun. It appears that vitamin D plays a crucial role in sulfur metabolismxix and when you swallow it orally it may not have the same benefit as getting it from the sun.

  • Take High Quality Animal-Based Omega-3 Fats

Animal-based omega-3 fat is a strong factor in helping people live longer, and many experts believe that it is likely the predominant reason why the Japanese are the longest lived people on the planet.

  • Avoid as Many Chemicals, Toxins, and Pollutants as Possible

This includes tossing out your toxic household cleaners, soaps, personal hygiene products, air fresheners, bug sprays, lawn pesticides, and insecticides, just to name a few, and replacing them with non-toxic alternatives.

How to take a case. General overview. part 2.

So, if you read part 1, the analysis continues. Specifically, the question arises pertaining to the known diagnosis of a named disease, and what place it holds in homoeopathic treatment.

We need to make a mental adjustment when thinking of disease. A ‘disease’ is not a unique entity. It does not exist outside of a living organism. It is a condition, a deviation from a healthy state. Once we comprehend that fact, it allows us to proceed with interpretation and assessment of the individual a lot more comprehensively.

As Stated previously elsewhere, there are known states of disorder which have been classified by symptom exhibition and pathological progression in a known order. These states have occurred, be it a contagion or epidemic, in individuals, albeit from a infecting agent which cause the progression of disorder in the known manner. The organism will exhibit the fundamental reality of altered response and functional changes which can be observed.

In homoeopathic diagnosis, this functional change, according to know pathological progression, according to location and altered responses, is ONE of the diagnosis tools used. Knowledge of progression of a type of disorder is useful to evaluate treatment and give a prognosis of the efficacy of the medicines prescribed. A physician utilising the true Hahnemannian application of therapeutics, will match the individual expression of disease, with an individually required medicine for individual curative purpose. Orthodox medicine will contain its treatment within the parameters of causation and location, ie treat the causative infection and the locale that is affected only. Given that the homoeopathic physician is looking to treat the person suffering under a disease state, it makes it totally imperative that he or she does not get trapped into the nosological form of diagnosis, to the detriment of treating the patient by individualising exhibited symptoms. If we keep the nosological diagnosis firmly in view, but attach a far WIDER significance to it, we can proceed cautiously further in our search for a curative medicine.

Diagnostic issues that face the homoeopath today, are far more complex than naming diseases, and knowledge of the anatomical areas of concern. A homoeopath will have to weigh up carefully and determine what value to place on aetiology and intervening events in the progression of the disorder that has the patient before them today. The physician will have to look past the causation and see what is to be treated RIGHT NOW Regardless of the causation if necessary. The homoeopath will have to take into consideration the reactions to all external stimuli IF there has been changes in reaction since an altered state of health ensued. This is a much widened viewpoint of disease acknowledgement that current medicine allows for.

We cannot ignore pathology. Pathology is a symptom and an observable symptom of part of the disease state. Hence;

  • Pathology indicates what is common to a known disease state.
  • Hence Pathology allows us to see the Patients individual or peculiar symptoms.
  • Pathology allows us to see new symptoms as a curative progression or a known progression of a disease state.
  • Pathology can determine what is treatable and what is not.
Given the last point, it may influence our decision to treat homoeopathically or refer to ancillary treatment protocols if the organism is damaged beyond repair.
It may seem that similar points have been reiterated from the first post in this series. It is the view of the author that this issue of pathology needed to be emphasised in a slightly different way for the benefit of those that didnt grasp it fully. Further articles will look at different subjects.

Just a man.

As the falls increased, and the hallucinations began, I suggested to my sister that the best thing would be to have 24 hour care for him. She talked to her mother in law, with whom she was staying to help with his care, and it was agreed that as both of in laws were in their early 80’s, the ability to look after each other was severely diminished.

He was carefully transported to a nursing facility, and made comfortable in the room. A catheter was inserted and a prescription made to counteract the unremitting pain in his upper body. We visited yesterday. The son, the grand daughter and me.

He did not look the same man. in 4 weeks he had lost 48% of his body weight, was gaunt and facially different. His mind drifted in and out of clarity. The son was visibly shocked at the change in him. He struggled with his emotions for a few seconds, and then we sat with him and talked the best we could to a man struggling to remain alive so he could make his good byes. We were in and out the room constantly as he was dealing with a dehabilitating constipation of which the urging to pass a motion was ever present, and nothing to pass except liquid.

I went to the front door of the facility to wait for the grand daughter. As she came through the door, she looked at me with lost and frightened eyes. I put my arm around her and whispered in her ear ” Your Grandad is still your grandad, waiting to see you, he isnt able to speak clearly, and the illness has changed his appearance a bit, but he is still your grandad and he wants to tell you things he cant find the words to say. Just be yourself and it will be ok sweetie.”  She clung to me for a few seconds, and then braced herself. We walked to the room, the door was open, she saw him and stood still. His back was half turned so he didnt see her. Her eyes filled with tears and she didnt know what to do. Her mother waved her hand and the girl came out of the room and sobbed for a bit. I waited there until she gained control. She then entered the room and went in. His face softened and a smile came across his lips. She bent and kissed his cheek.

He didnt have much strength for talking. Sometime lucid, sometimes vague. He was a man of a gentle humour, always something direct yet witty to say. he loved good funny comments given or take.

As the pattern of in and out the room continued due to the need to sit on the commode, family chat was made, and the realisation came over that the time was short. I was in the room alone for a brief moment, and he said, “my bollocks hurt” and pulled at them to get comfortable.. the nurse was informed and they changed the position of the catheter  to try and ease the pressure.

The son had a private time with his dad. His dad knew his time was short. His opening line was a shrug of the shoulders and  the comment “..its just life boy”, told his son to look after his mother and a few father son things which belong between a close father/son relationship. grand daughter spent a couple of minutes with him, just holding hands and words of love with tears.

When I went in, he was distracted and in pain. I went to hold his arm, and his hands went down to try and relieve the pain in his testicles. I stood there for a moment, and as his spasm passed, I said “I think I might pass on shaking your hand….”. A smile crept over his face and that was all that we needed to speak.

His wife of 60 some years leaned over him and kissed him and they hugged. He looked her straight in the eyes with unspoken words. A life time of companionship and closeness.

We traveled home that night the 130 miles. at 7:30 this morning, the phone call came that he had fallen asleep in death peacefully during the night.

This was a man who suffered no illness all his life. In 2006  he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and given what I can only assume with a lack of specific knowledge, a mixture of hormone treatment and radiotherapy. In 2012, he complained of pain in his shoulder and back. Advanced stage cancer was in his back abdomen and liver. It was relatively quick.

He was 81. His aged system was not able to deal with health issues as it once was. He succumbed to illness. Was the treatment for cancer he received in 2006 suppressive? Im not sure that giving hormones and radiotherapy is anything else but suppressive, and yet there is nothing else offered to sick people. Would he have lived longer with another therapy? I dont know. I have seen other patients have better results with homoeopathy, but it wasnt him and he never took that path. I do know that the world accepts without question that cancer is best treated with drugs and radiation and fancy machines in a sterile environment. You will NEVER get true figures for survival of cancer patients, or the realities of treatment protocols. You will always get scorn heaped on alternative treatments, and by alternative I mean treatments not pharmaceutically endorsed.

Somehow, it does not seem fair.

Its done, and another life has run its course. We have his memory and his legacy in his children and grandchildren.
